Across Latin America, electricity demand is rising faster than new firm generation. Ecuador illustrates the challenge, with sustained demand growth, structural energy deficits and prolonged blackouts, while municipal waste volumes continue to increase and remain largely landfilled.
RDT’s Waste to Energy + SAF program addresses both gaps by converting municipal waste into firm electricity, sustainable aviation fuel and recoverable materials through long-term, contracted infrastructure projects.
Each project combines waste supply agreements, regulated power tariffs and low-carbon fuel offtake within an AA+ bank-anchored trust and private equity structure, creating stable cash flows while reducing emissions and municipal costs.

Scope
Initial portfolio of 10 WTE + SAF plants in Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, integrated with existing landfill and grid infrastructure.
Scale and Outputs
~102 MW of installed capacity, processing 1,500+ tons/day of municipal solid waste, generating 370+ GWh/year of firm electricity and ~16.5 million gallons/year of SAF-equivalent fuels and green diesel.
Economics
Program CAPEX of approximately US$270.6 million, supporting projected annual revenues of ~US$152 million and a modeled reduction of ~1.45 million tons of CO₂ per year.
Return Drivers
Tipping fees, contracted electricity sales, SAF and fuel offtake, recovered metals, and potential carbon credits.
Model-Based Returns
Based on current engineering and financial models, projects are structured to target model-based project IRRs of approximately 45%–65%, subject to final contracts, regulation and execution.
